Budding Architects Prepare to Create ICA City!

Free Family Fun April 29 and 30th: Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston and The Boston Society of Architects Host KidsBuild 2011 Special Event!

 
Overview:

The Institute of Contemporary Art and The Boston Society of Architects have joined together again for a free program ¾ KidsBuild! ICA City 2011 ¾ to be held at the ICA on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.  Guided by professional architects, children will choose a construction site from a fictional city grid, design and build a building, and be awarded a certificate of occupancy from the ICA-City building inspectors. Geared toward children ages 6 - 12, the program helps kids understand and formulate ideas about architecture, design and building a city from the ground up. *Pre-registration is required for this event and will begin in late March. Dates/Times:

·         Friday, April 29 from 10 am to 6 pm. (last start time is 4:30 pm)

·         Saturday, April 30 from 10 am – 5 pm (last start time 3 pm)

·         It is recommended that you allow at least two hours to complete your ICA City building

·         Sunday, May 1: ICA City viewing from 10-4PM, children may pick up buildings between 4-4:30PM only.

 
ICA Playdates:

The April 30th KidsBuild! is part of the ICA’s family programs. ICA Play Dates, sponsored by Bank of America and P & G Gillette, are held on the last Saturday of the month from January through November and include performances, films, gallery tours, plus  art-making activities that encourage children ages 6 and older and their parents (or favorite adult) to explore contemporary art and design together. Younger siblings are always welcome. Admission to ICA Play Dates is free to adults accompanied by a child age 12 and under. 

 

The Institute of Contemporary Art, located at 100 Northern Avenue, is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 am – 5 pm; Thursday and Friday, 10 am – 9 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. Admission is $15 adults, $10 seniors and students, and free for members and children 17 and under.
