POSITION TITLE: Curator
DEPARTMENT: Curatorial
SUPERVISOR: Chief Curator
WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time Position, 40 hours per week, Exempt
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, seeks a creative, dynamic and experienced Curator to develop and implement exhibitions of small, medium and large scale. The Curator will join an energetic and professional team led by the Chief Curator.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Curator will be responsible for research, planning, budgeting, organizing and implementing ICA-generated exhibitions, including monographic survey exhibitions, thematic group shows, identifying emerging artists for the ICA’s momentum series, and overseeing traveling exhibitions.
The Curator works in collaboration with other departments, including education, marketing, development and finance.
The Curator is also responsible for supervision of other staff as designated.
Additional duties will include:
• outreach to local artist community,
• serve as an ambassador for the ICA in the community, nationally, and
internationally
• help to build the ICA’s nascent permanent collection
• give public lectures and presentations
• works with trustee committees
• fosters relationships with donors, collectors and funders
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess excellent public speaking skills, a clear and lucid writing style, a sense of humor, and very good interpersonal skills.
5 years museum experience plus master’s degree in art history and/or curatorial studies.
