Director of Education

The ICA is seeking a Director of Education to lead our active education department in the development of learning tools and delivery of programs for teens, families, adults and new audiences.  Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Director of Education will ensure that department outputs meet developmental goals and learning objectives for the organization. 

We are looking for a leader who builds strong relationships both internally and externally.  The ideal candidate is a creative and experienced educator, enjoys testing new approaches, and has  a strong commitment to connecting art and audiences. He/she understands the obstacles to participation in the arts, particularly contemporary arts, and has a vision for overcoming them, as well as the ability to share that vision with a talented and motivated staff. 

Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic direction for the department to ensure gallery visitors and
  program participants receive high quality and satisfying experiences.
• Lead in the development of new audiences through outreach, creation of
  educational resources and advocacy for existing and new programming.
• Develop print, audio and digital learning tools for visitors in close collaboration
  with the Curatorial department.
• Provide direction in all aspects of gallery interpretation including content
  development, training of volunteer guides, and production. 
• Strategize to develop partnerships to foster the education role of the
  organization within the community.
• Manage the day-to-day work load for a staff of 6 and semester long interns.  
• Oversee timelines, resource allocation, and budgets.
• Work closely with others in fund raising efforts, including grant development
  and donor relations.

Qualifications:
• 
5+ years of art museum experience, including at least 3 years in management.
• Hold an advance degree in related field.
• Demonstrated experience as an educator, and an expansive view of art
  education and the myriad ways of engaging audiences with contemporary
  art.  
• A thorough knowledge and passion for the art of today, and a strong
  appreciation for contemporary performing and media arts.
• Must enjoy working with artists across disciplines and recognize their unique
  value in the art education experience.
