Director of Marketing and Communications

OVERVIEW
The ICA seeks a dynamic, creative, entrepreneurial marketing and public relations professional with the ability to lead and inspire the team responsible for meeting aggressive attendance and program goals. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successfully managing a comprehensive communications effort, including brand development, advertising, media relations, cross-marketing partnerships, cultural tourism activities and an ambitious program of on-line and printed materials. In addition, he or she will have demonstrated ability to devise innovative marketing strategies, lead and manage a team, build internal and external relationships and provide thought leadership around all aspects of marketing and communications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain annual marketing and communications goals for the overall organization.

• Develop, maintain and manage annual marketing expense budget.

• Direct the implementation of the ICA’s brand identity in ICA communications, including print and electronic publications, promotional materials and museum signage - ensuring a consistent and engaging message to all constituencies

• Direct media relations activities and act as chief liaison to the media

• Direct the ICA’s advertising and promotions program, including the development of media and creative strategies to promote the ICA’s exhibitions and public programs to Boston residents and international and domestic visitors.

• Lead, manage and inspire a team of professionals responsible for on-line and print publications, direct mail, digital and social media, promotion, and marketing partnerships.

• Act as liaison with the major tourism agencies (GBCVB, MOTT, MassPort, MCCC)

• Coordinate and analyze the collection of data on ICA visitors and identify key market segments to further broaden and diversify the ICA’s visitorship.

• Supervise the work of the Communications Managers and Designers

• Work with curatorial, education and program directors to develop the overall marketing strategy.

• Build internal relationships to allow effective partnerships with membership, development, events, program and curatorial departments.

• Ensure team members clearly understand goals and have the support and resources to meet them.

• Support the professional growth of the marketing team.

• Provide regular reporting and progress on all marketing activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of six years of marketing and public relations experience in a results oriented visual or performing arts organization.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing a strategic marketing plan
• Demonstrated ability to be creative and entrepreneurial in marketing and communications.
• Previous management experience.
• Proven ability to build internal and external relationships.
• Positive attitude and a sense of humor.
• A passion for contemporary art (visual or performing).
