Position Status: Part Time, Hourly and Non-Exempt
The Special Events department is looking for part time assistance to work events hosted at the Museum. A Visitor Services Special Event staff member greets visitors and ensures that all guests have proper museum access. She/He will assist with monitoring the gallery spaces, dispensing museum information and literature, promoting membership. This work will require standing for long periods of time, adherence to dress code and working evenings, weekends and some holiday hours.
Most events at the ICA occur on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings. September, October and December are very busy for event staff. Event staff must be available to work from 6 pm - midnight.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Welcomes and monitors visitors to ensure that all guests who enter the
museum are identified as staff or special event guest; will monitor large
numbers in museum areas to provide a smooth flow of visitation.
• Responds to questions from the public and promotes membership when
applicable, enforces museum policies and protects the art from handling,
photography or damage.
• Serves as an advocate for the visitor while promoting the safety of the
museum; communicates consistently with visitors to ensure a positive
museum and special event experience.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
• Manage coat check operations when applicable
• Lobby and Theater greeters and informational assistant for event guests
• Manage Registration and Check-In Duties
• Perform other light duties as directed by management
• Elevator operator
Special Events Staff will work a varied and flexible schedule during weekday and weekend evenings and some holidays. Special Events Staff are required to sign up for and work a minimum number of events per month, including a specific number of Opening Events.
Qualifications:
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays
• Willingness to be available to work events on short notice
• Attention to detail with ability to perform a variety of tasks
• Solid interpersonal and communication skills
• Friendly and outgoing, able to conduct oneself in a polite and professional
manner in a variety of situations.
• Ability to use good judgment and to respond in handling crowds and waiting
lines; remain calm and present a professional demeanor
• Experience working in a fast paced museum environment a plus
• Interest in contemporary art a plus
An hourly rate will be offered for this position.
