Part-time Position

Family Program Artists

The ICA is accepting proposals from artists for our family Play Dates, held on the last Saturday of every month. These days will offer free admission to adults accompanied by children ages 12 and under along with a variety of performances, programs, and art-making activities to engage visitors of all ages. We are seeking proposals that create educational and interpretive links to our exhibitions. The ICA's Play Dates program seeks to connect kids and their families to contemporary art and artists. Artists' workshops will run from 10-4 (closed by 4 pm) on the last Saturday of each month. Activities should be engaging for children ages 5-12 and their adult companions. Assistants will be available to help the programs run smoothly.

Themes and ideas for upcoming Play Dates:
• Ordinary to Extraordinary—seeing and working with everyday materials in
  unexpected ways
• Architecture, Building and Design
• Design Workshop: designing toys and robots
• Making the everyday theatrical
• Theater as a way to see/re-look at everyday life
• Use of physical body as vehicle for creating art

Resources:
All Play Date workshops are held in the ICA's Bank of America Art Lab (directly off the main lobby of the museum) and should encourage visitors to spend time in the galleries during the day. Workshops can be designed to be ongoing and drop-in, or at specific times within the 10 - 4 pm framework, depending on the nature and scope of the project.

The following resources are available: 1 computer, tape/CD player, sink, basic art-making materials and supplies like ex-acto knives, scissors, markers, colored pencils, collage materials, some crafts materials like feathers, glue, paint, and clay. The Art Lab is approximately 18 x 40' and has 6 tables with stackable chairs; some or all of these can be removed if necessary.

There is also a small budget for additional resources, per approval by the Family Programs and Art Lab Coordinator.
