Play Date: When Art Meets Music

Explore how artist Dave Muller combines sounds, drawing, and time in his work for the Art Wall. Visit the Bank of America Art Lab, where DJ’s will be spinning, and create a family tree, including your own sketches and notes about the roots and influences in your family. Make a musical instrument and listen to and participate in performances by Roots Music Collective at 11:45 am or 2 pm. This program and museum admission are free for 2 adults per family with children 12 and under. No prior registration is necessary, but theater events are ticketed. Tickets are free and available first-come, first-served at the admissions desk on the day of the program. This Play Date is sponsored by the Nudelman Family.

Blurring the lines between hip-hop, electronic and classical music, DJ Spooky, that Subliminal Kid, will “live sample” a string trio while building bridges between digital culture and the traditions of composers as diverse as Bach, Gotan Project, and Radiohead. DJ Spooky, aka Paul Miller, is a conceptual artist, writer, and musician. His written work has appeared in such publications as Village Voice, Artforum, and Raygun. He has worked with such composers as Pierre Boulez, Steve Reich and Iannis Xenakis, as well as performers including Yoko Ono and Sonic Youth. His artwork was included in the 2007 Venice Biennale in the African Pavilion.
