Fashion designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez met while studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York and launched their distinctive clothing brand Proenza Schouler shortly thereafter. Notable for an intriguing and inventive use of fabric, their designs are inspired by influences ranging from the Himalayan region of Nepal; the coy urban youth culture of New York; and artists Cy Twombly, Mark Rothko, and Gerhard Richter.
