Momentum 4: Roe Etheridge

May 18 - September 5, 2005

New York-based photographer Roe Ethridge is the fourth artist featured in the Momentum series. Ethridge's work brings a contemporary sensibility informed by fashion and advertising to traditional genres of photography such as landscape, portraiture, and still-life. Ethridge's practice reflects a variety of approaches to photography, exploiting the possibilities of the genre both formally and conceptually. In many of his photographs, the artist uses flat, close-up shots of ordinary objects—a young pine tree, a model's made-up face, a gaudy pink ribbon—to present them as deadpan icons.
