FREE TALKS

Nicholas Baume
ICA Chief Curator and curator of Anish Kapoor: Past, Present, Future
Thursday, May 29, 6:30 pm
Hear about Baume's experience working with Anish Kapoor, thoughts about this first major solo exhibition in the U.S. in 15 years, and his view of the artist's significance.

Amitava Kumar
Author
"No dull origins, just shining reflection"
Thursday, June 12, 6:30 pm
Kumar, a writer for The Nation, The Times of India, and The Hindu, discusses how Anish Kapoor's art, like the work of Indian writer Vikram Seth, is difficult to categorize. How does this work suggest endless difference rather than a fixed ethnic essence? A professor of English at Vassar College, Kumar is the author of several works of fiction and non-fiction, including the New York Times Editor's Choice, Husband of a Fanatic, and the editor of Away: The Indian Writer as an Expatriate.

Admission for both talks is free. Space is limited. Free tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis at the admissions desk one hour before the program.

FAMILIES

Play Date: Bigger, Bigger, Pop!
Saturday, June 28, 10 am - 4 pm
After experiencing Anish Kapoor’s mind-blowing sculptures, visit the Bank of America Art Lab, where you can help build a sculpture that challenges your perceptions of space. Ready for more adventures? At 12 and 2 pm, you can explore visual art, science, and the physical laws of the natural world with "Bubblemania," a hilarious program of comedy, music, and unbelievable soap bubble art from Casey Carle, an award-winning “Bubble Champion” who has worked with Cirque du Soleil.

Play Date: Moving Conversations
Saturday, July 26, 10 am - 4 pm
Sometimes art is like a conversation. Drop in on Sara Rudner’s dance installation (ongoing from 12 - 4 pm) and see how the dancers “talk” to the audience, then see how Anish Kapoor’s sculptures seem to change depending on where you are standing. Create your own sculptures in the Bank of America Art Lab, cast unique forms, or create your own moving conversations with visiting artists out on the grandstand (weather permitting).

These programs and museum admission are free for 2 adults per family with children 12 and under. No prior registration is necessary, but theater events are ticketed. Tickets are free and available first-come, first-served at the admissions desk on the day of the program.
