2002 ICA Artist Prize: Alice Swinden Carter
September 18, 2002 – January 1, 2003
Alice Swinden Carter, known for her sculptures made out of industrially manufactured materials, was the 2002 recipient of the ICA Artist Prize. Made from steel, glass, aluminum, acrylic and wood, Swinden Carter’s work references chairs, vitrines, tables, and armatures, but remains purposely abstract. For the ICA, she presented two untitled pieces that referenced horizontally and surface, two principles intrinsically tied to, yet wholly abstracted from, the utilitarian function of a tabletop.
