Open Book #3 (Island Wilderness) is a photograph of a photograph: a serene picture of blue sky and sea reproduced in what appears to be a sleek coffee-table book, held open by an unseen person. It is at once a portrait of a landscape, a portrait of an object, and, perhaps, a portrait of a person’s passions. Anne Collier’s photographic work acknowledges our urge to construct sentimental and emotional attachments to mass-produced items.
