PLAY DATES
KidsBuild: ICA City
Design the building of your dreams, and see a city come to life! Join the ICA and our partners the Boston Society of Architects in creating a model city on the stage of the ICA’s theater. Have fun and learn about architecture and design from the ground up.
Registration
Due to expected high attendance for this event, we are requiring groups and families to sign up in advance. Registration forms must be filled in completely and returned via email or fax. We regret we cannot accept phone registrations. All registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive a confirmation within a week of submitting your registration and then a phone call the week before the event to confirm your attendance and participation.
Download the registration form (Note: after filling out the form, remember to save the pdf before e-mailing it back)
Time
Note: the building process takes a minimum of 2 hours (there may also be some additional wait time) and this activity is recommended for children ages 6 and older with adult assistance. All children will spend some time sketching their building design ideas in the ICA theater before proceeding to the construction yard. Architecture-related activities will be offered in the theater while children and families are waiting for space in the construction yard.
Food & Drink
Food and drinks are not permitted in the museum and outside food is not permitted in the Water Café. However, our outdoor grandstand is the perfect place for picnicking (Bringing your own lunches and snacks to share on the grandstand is fine, however please note that there is no storage space to check these items inside the ICA.) Though sometimes breezy, the grandstand is covered and affords incredible views of Boston Harbor. Families who are waiting for building space in the construction yard will be notified by cell phone or pagers when there are open seats available.
