Play Date: DIY Sculpting with Fiber
Delve into the exhibition Fiber: Sculpture 1960–present and chat with artist educators in the galleries. In the Bank of America Art Lab, use a surprising mix of materials to create forts for your family with our visiting artist. Don’t miss a spoken word performance by local youth in our theater, then join a workshop to put together your own words and rhythms.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
All activities are for children and adults to do together and are best for children ages 6+, but all ages are welcome.
Books and Art | 10 am – 4pm
Settle-in together to read children’s books related to the art and exhibitions. Staff-led readings will take place at 10:45, 11:15 and 11:45 am. Books are available for families to enjoy while visiting the museum.
We Are All Thread | 11 am – 4pm
Mixed Media Weaving & Installation
Weave your own unique design and add-on musings using typewriters in this hands-on activity designed by artist Wes Bruce. Weavings and writings may be taken away or to added to our ongoing community installation.
Build an Indoor Fort! | 11 am – 3 pm
Weave a labyrinth of full-scale forts using common household items with visiting artist Wes Bruce and our artist educators.
Sketching | Noon – 4 pm
Take in the view of Boston Harbor as inspiration for your drawings and/or create from your imagination.
Spoken Word Performance | 1:30 pm
Don’t miss kids and teens from Boston using their voices expressively in this engaging performance. Audience participation invited. Family workshops will be offered directly following the youth spoken word presentation, at 2 pm.
