SHORT FILM PROGRAM: NEW ENGLAND ANIMATORS

CANINE REVERIE

by The Clever Girls Collaborative

BOSTON PREMIERE Canine Reverie by The Clever Girls Collaborative (7:45, 2010). This film explores the question, "What do dogs dream about?" Utilizing a variety of animated techniques including cut paper, paint on glass, and object animation, the film delves into the dream life of two dogs. Created to accompany Christine Southworth’s musical composition Concerning the Doodle (an ode to her own dog), performed by the Bang on a Can All-Stars.

The Clever Girls Collaborative: Artists Christina "Ean" Spangler, Amy Lovera, Julia Gandrud, and Jessica Gidal make up the Clever Girls Collaborative. Focusing on a handmade, hands-on approach to animation, they emphasize spontaneity and play in their work. The CGC began as a response to the often labor-intensive process of making animated films, and out of a desire to be technically inventive.
