SHORT FILM PROGRAM: NEW ENGLAND ANIMATORS
SECRET BEE and HOUSE BUNNY
by Gina Kamentsky
WORLD PREMIERE Secret Bee by Gina Kamentsky (1:30, 2010). Secret Bee ventures toward the sweet honey-spot where representation and surface push and pull each other like a two-headed lama. Film footage was produced frame by frame, painting and drawing directly on found film stock resulting in a cavalcade of color and image. Secret Bee features the super twisted piece of music "A Drink on Spike Jones" by Sonic de/constructor extraordinaire Dave Phillips.
House Bunny by Gina Kamentsky (2:30, 2010). Drawn directly on film, House Bunny explores relationships among rhythm, surface, and representation.
Gina Kamentsky creates kinetic sculpture and animated films. Her current artistic interests involve invoking the "sweet spot" where representation and surface push and pull each other. She is pursuing this by drawing and painting images directly on film stock, a technique known as direct animation.
