SHORT FILM PROGRAM: NEW ENGLAND ANIMATORS

SHAPESHIFTER by Lillian Fang

NEW ENGLAND PREMIERE Shapeshifter by Lillian Fang (3:34, 2010). When a mysterious creature arrives in a village offering to bestow wishes, the inhabitants are enthralled. But when one asks for the power of transformation itself, a more frightening side of the magic is revealed. Based loosely on Menelaus’s battle with the shapeshifting god Proteus from The Odyssey, the film uses a mixture of stop-motion puppetry and traditional and computer animation.

Lillian Fang studied animation at Harvard University and is currently working in computer graphics in New York. Next year she plans to attend the Royal College of Art in London.
