Art Over Politics

Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer

In early 2012, the feminist art collective Pussy Riot performed a satirical 40-second “punk prayer” inside a Moscow cathedral. That performance led to the arrests of three members on charges of religious hatred and culminated in a trial that has reverberated around the world and transformed the face of Russian society forever. But who is really on trial—these young artists or the society they live in? Filmed over six months, this documentary offers unparalleled access and exclusive footage of the women behind the now-famous balaclavas. By Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin.
