A video production program for teens
ast Forward is an accelerated, multi-year new media program offered free of charge to qualified high school students. Participants meet weekly, developing a portfolio of work for critique, presentation and distribution.
Over the course of the school year, participants conceive, produce and edit original work in various genres, including narrative, documentary and experimental. Professional filmmakers and media artists are invited as guest artists to work with the students in specific areas, including lighting, documentary production, advanced sound design and computer animation.
At the end of the year, all participants present their finished work in the ICA's Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater in front of friends, family and ICA visitors. Participants are encouraged to submit their work to film festivals across the country. Those who successfully complete a year are invited to return the following year until graduation from high school.
Who can apply?
Fast Forward is open to high school aged students in the greater Boston area with priority given to students in the Boston Public Schools. Entry into Fast Forward is based on an application and interview process. Applications are accepted in the fall of each year and total enrollment is based on available slots. Experience is not necessary, but students who have taken new media workshops at the ICA often transition into the Fast Forward program.
