DJs ON THE HARBOR
DJ /rupture
Opening sets by Lamin Fofana and Rizzla (Fade to Mind/Nu Life)
DJ /rupture is an interdisciplinary artist and DJ living in Brooklyn, NY. His artistic practice has evolved out of his work as a DJ, built around core concerns for how sound, technology use in low-income communities, and public space interact, with an emphasis on Latin America, Africa, and the Arab world. He has released several critically acclaimed albums and mix CDs, starting with 2001′s influential live mix CD Gold Teeth Thief, which earned a four-star review in VIBE. His album Uproot was named one of the Ten Best Albums of 2008 by Pitchfork. He maintains a busy international schedule performing in clubs around the world as well as venues such as The Whitney Museum, MoMA’s PS1, The Apollo Theater, the Pitchfork Festival and Spain’s SONAR.
Lamin Fofana was born in the West African country of Guinea. When the political situation changed he moved to Freetown, Sierra Leone, where his routine involved listening to Goodie Mob and Organized Konfusion as well as attending Quranic schools/mosques. In 1997 Lamin’s family left Sierra Leone, and currently lives in Harlem, New York.
A leader in Boston's alternative queer scene, Rizzla's unique and frantic blend of global dance music found a home on Kingdom's Fade to Mind label, a platform specializing in new developments in club music. He has released several acclaimed EP's and mixtapes, has been featured in The Fader and The Boston Phoenix. He is set to release a full-length album in late 2012.
ICA DJs on the Harbor are supported by Red Bull Music Academy.
Selected DJ sets will be recorded for Red Bull Music Academy Radio.
