Wavelengths: Dean Wareham
Fans of dream-pop acts Galaxie 500, Luna, and Dean and Britta will recognize much in frontman Dean Wareham’s solo debut. From the narcotic guitars and wry, playful lyrics to the characteristic off beat tremolo, Wareham's long-awaited solo efforts—last year’s EP and this year’s self-titled album, produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James—continue in the dreamy, sadly romantic vein of his almost 30-year career, looking back with a fond, wise detachment. The Boston Globe calls it “an understated sonic triumph that is unlike anything else out there today.”

Opening act: Quilt
Since the release of their 2011 self-titled debut, Quilt has become more than kids just out of college—they’ve become a bona fide hard-touring band, with stories to share from the road and experiences to distill into the narrative of new music. Their latest album, Held in Splendor, is an audacious pop-rock record with cascading harmonies and billowing textures, punchy rhythms and snarled guitars—brimming with the sort of unapologetic energy and wonder that turns simple songs into absolute anthems.
