Group Visits

Guided and self-guided tours

The ICA offers guided tours and self-guided visits for groups of ten to forty-five adults, college students, school and community groups. To schedule a guided tour or self-guided visit, download the forms below.  Groups must contact the Water Café directly at 617-478-3290 with inquiries about dining options.

The ICA must receive the Group Visit Registration Form AT LEAST THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR VISIT to accommodate your group.

Guided Tours
Guided tours are led by trained tour guides who provide social and cultural contexts for understanding contemporary art using an interactive approach to learning. Groups may choose a tour of our special exhibition or a more general introductory tour of the new museum—please specify when booking. (School and youth groups may also participate in our Art Lab, an extra component which involves a hands-on, art-making activity in the Bank of America Art Lab following a tour. Click here for more information.) Participants are divided into small groups of 15 or fewer. One tour guide is assigned for every 15 visitors, 2 guides for 16 to 30 visitors, and 3 guides for 30 to 45 visitors.  Tours run approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Self-Guided Visits
Groups of 10 to 45 may visit the ICA on their own and receive the discounted group rate.  Please submit the Group Visit Registration Form at least three weeks in advance to receive the group rate.

Guided Tours         10 am – 4 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 
                                                      Saturday, and Sunday
                                10 am – 8 pm Friday

Self-Guided Tours  10 am – 4 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and
                                                       Sunday
                                 10 am – 8 pm Thursday and Friday

Chaperones
For school and youth groups (under 18), one chaperone per ten visitors is required.  Chaperones must stay with the students at all times and are responsible for the safety of the group and the exhibitions.  All chaperones and teachers are free.

Group Minimum and Maximum Numbers
To book a group visit, the minimum number of participants required is ten, and due to limited gallery space, the maximum number that can be accommodated at one booking is 45.  If your group number is larger than 45 people, more than one booking may be made, space permitting, at least a half-hour apart.
