Chip Kidd is an American author, editor, graphic designer, and Batman collector whose book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf spawned a revolution in the art of American book packaging.

A comprehensive monograph of Kidd’s work, Chip Kidd: Book One (2005), features more than 800 examples of his work from 1986 through 2006, and boasts an introduction by John Updike.

Kidd’s first novel, The Cheese Monkeys: A Novel In Two Semesters (2001) became a national bestseller, as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His second novel, The Learners (2008), also received tremendous acclaim. Last year he published both Shazam: The Golden Age of the World's Mightiest Mortal (2010) and True Prep: It's a Whole New Old World with Lisa Birnbach (2010), the follow-up to The Official Preppy Handbook (1980), which was an instant New York Times–bestseller.

Chip's work has also appeared in such national publications as Vanity Fair and The New York Times; was included in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum's third National Design Triennial; and has received numerous awards including the International Center of Photography's award for Use of Photography in Graphic Design, and the National Design Award for Communications, the industry’s highest honor.
