The Institute of Contemporary Art strives to share the pleasures of reflection, inspiration, provocation, and imagination that contemporary art offers through public access to art, artists, and the creative process. Teen arts education is central to the ICA. At the ICA, we believe that robust arts education—including learning by doing—is critical to building future artists, audiences, and engaged citizens, and we aim especially to create a more equitable education for teens. Members of our Teen Programs return year after year, becoming familiar faces who we get to see learn, grow, do amazing things, and head out into the world.

The ICA/Boston is seeking to hire a Contract Teaching Artist for the 2022–2023 School Year. The contract artist will provide services for the Teen Exhibitions Program (TEP), a group of paid teens from the Boston area that work together to plan, curate, and install artwork in the ICA Teen Gallery located at the ICA’s Seaport Studio just two blocks from the ICA. TEP organizes two exhibitions a year to amplify teen art and invite teens in Boston and beyond to engage with the artwork. Teens work together to imagine the possibilities of what an exhibition space can be and work with ICA staff to design exhibitions, install artwork, and create activations to engage the community with the work. The program runs on Fridays, 4–7 pm, from September 9 through June 9, on Saturday, Sep 10, 10 am–4 pm (with some additional days for exhibitions and other events).

The Teaching Artist should plan to be available on all TEP program dates to prepare, set up, execute, and clean up. The Teaching Artist will also develop a scope and sequence for the program, writing plans for individual sessions, and supporting the teens in TEP.
