Sterling Ruby and Virgil Abloh, exhibiting artists at the ICA this season, have broken barriers and notions of how and where today’s contemporary artists can or should work. In this special program, Ruby and Abloh come together to discuss their work, backgrounds, and influential creative practices that transcend any one discipline, crossing into art, fashion, design, and more.

Sterling Ruby has transcended boundaries within the visual arts, using innovative methods within paint, drawing, ceramics, and sculpture before breaking into fashion with his successful launch of SR. Studio. LA. CA. in 2019. His exhibition at the ICA, co-organized by ICA Miami, is his first comprehensive museum survey.

Virgil Abloh studied architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology (ITT) before achieving international acclaim in the fashion world—now serving as artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s menswear and his own fashion label, OFF-White™—and opening his critically acclaimed traveling exhibition of visual art and fashion at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago in 2019.

Hear more about the artists’ highly regarded/anticipated exhibitions at the ICA in this public talk, moderated by Eva Respini, Barbara Lee Chief Curator at the ICA.
