Cynthia Fowler, professor of art history at Emmanuel College, will share her personal connection with Nicholas Nixon’s People with AIDS series. Between 1987 and 1991, Nixon photographed 15 individuals with AIDS, including Fowler’s brother, Paul. She will discuss with visitors how the reception of these provocative images has changed from the 1980s to today. Her research interests include craft art movements, the history of photography, the intersection of social justice and the visual arts, and visual constructions of gender.
