Join us for a day of family fun! Create artwork with water, patterns, and science, inspired by Wu Tsang: Of Whales. Deepen connections with the installation through stories of journeys and the deep sea. Learn new techniques for discussing and observing art during our in-gallery pop-up talk, exploring the real-life journey of artist Guadalupe Maravilla. All activities are drop-in, first come first served, space is limited. Reserve free admission tickets online in advance.*
*On Saturday, March 30, museum admission is FREE for families when accompanied by kids ages 12 and under, with up to 2 adults per family. Tickets must be reserved online in advance. 1st Floor, Art Lab
Explore the intersection of art and science through artmaking inspired by Wu Tsang: Of Whales! Using pathways of water and ink, participants develop unique and colorful designs that move and bloom across their page. Participants are then invited to turn their patterned paper into a jellyfish, or other imagined deep-sea creature! All activities are drop-in, first come first served; space is limited.
2nd Floor, Theater
Join us in the theater for a staff led reading of family-friendly storybooks inspired by journeys and the deep sea. All ages welcome, along with any sea-creature creations from the Art Lab activity!
4th Floor, Galleries
Explore art together with a pop-up talk on Guadalupe Maravilla’s Mariposa Relámpago Retablo, 2023. Visitor Assistants will guide you through a discussion and close-looking activity that will provide families with new techniques for engaging with art anywhere!
