Enjoy the world’s most cutting-edge, thoughtful, funny, and provocative animation at the ICA’s presentation of the Ottawa International Animation Festival’s best selections from 2018.
This program showcases audience favorites and award winners from the 2018 Ottawa International Animation Festival competition. This year’s selection includes films that test our understanding of our relationship to ourselves, our parents, our partners, and even our planet. In Facing It, Sam Gainsborough shows a young man’s struggle to deal with uncomfortable feelings through life-sized clay animation. Multiple 2018 award winner My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes uses physical objects from a family’s past to reconcile a difficult understanding of a father. Fest and Bird Milk challenge form and technique and provide two fine examples of experimentation in the short form through two often opposing platforms – 3D computer and 2D cameraless animation.
Founded in 1976 at the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa, the Ottawa International Animation Festival is the oldest and largest animation event in the Americas. For 42 years the OIAF has been exhibiting the world’s most edgy, eclectic and mind-blowing animation content, celebrating traditional techniques while pioneering experimental and computer-animated films.
