Take your time looking at contemporary art together and playing gallery games. Create mixed-media artworks in the Bank of America Art Lab or sketch the wintry Boston Harbor. Get enchanted, discover new ways to listen, and help Boston-based musician Aaron Larget-Caplan make new musical works during a special concert. Pajamas welcome!

Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater
International artist Aaron Larget-Caplan presents an all-ages 21st-century guitar concert, Night Songs & Dreams, from his acclaimed New Lullaby Project. With guitar secrets and tips for listening, Aaron’s playing will inspire visitors of all ages. A Q&A with the guitarist will follow the concert. Visitors are also welcome at that time to meet composers (of music Aaron played).

Aaron is a performer with all the skill and energy required to deliver a truly remarkable contemporary work.



All activities are designed for children and adults to do together and are for all ages; very young children will need adult guidance. First-come, first-served; Space is limited.

  • Making Family Portraits | 10:45 AM –1:30 PM

    Create portraits of yourself and your family members guided by teaching artists. Don’t miss the painting by Henry Taylor in our galleries before trying this activity.
  • Sculpturing with Space and Shapes | 11 AM–1:30 PM + 2:15–4 PM
    Bank of America Art Lab, 1st floor
    Construct small-scale sculptures that play with using empty space. Take a look at works in our galleries by Sarah Sze and Nancy Graves before trying this workshop.        
  • Sketching |12:45–4 PM
    John Hancock Founders Gallery, 4th floor
    Try your hand at capturing the view or draw from your imagination.

Our galleries are open from 10-5 PM. Our Visitor Assistants are always available to answer questions and guide families to the best selections of art works for all ages.

    Mediatheque, Fourth floor
    Staff led picture book readings for kids ages 3-8 and their adults explore ideas from art and architecture of our museum.

  • Family Pop-Up Talks | 2:30, 3 + 3:30 PM
    Fourth Floor galleries
    Lively short staff-led discussions dive deeper into one or two artworks on view, inviting participation from kids and adults.
