Join us for a day of family fun exploring art, movement, and power! Explore exhibitions in the galleries and engage in activities designed for families with kids to work on together. Reserve free admission tickets online in advance*. All activities are drop-in, first come first served, space is limited.
*On Saturday, March 25, museum admission is FREE for families when accompanied by kids ages 12 and under, with up to 2 adults per family. Tickets must be reserved online in advance. Use the code PLAYDATE when reserving your ticket(s). Advance tickets are strongly recommended; day-of tickets are not guaranteed.
Art-making with Artist Jen Turpin, 11 AM–4 PM
1st Floor, Art Lab
Drop-in for a hands-on art-making experience for the whole family, and work with Boston-based artist Jen Turpin! Be inspired by Barbara Kruger’s Art Wall, and create your own bold artworks to express messages that empower. Drop-in, first-come-first-served, space is limited.
Dance Performances by Urbanity Dance Youth Groups, 11 AM + 2 PM
3rd Floor, Theater (Accessible Entrance on 2nd Floor)
Urbanity Dance presents performances by their youth dance groups. After each performance, join the dancers on stage for an open movement workshop led by Urbanity faculty members. All are welcome – No prior dance experience necessary!
Books + Looks, 10:30 AM + 1:30 PM
4th Floor, Mediatheque
Join for a staff led reading of family-friendly storybooks and make connections to artworks on view. Drop-in, first come, first serve, space is limited.
In the Galleries, 10 AM–5 PM
4th Floor, Galleries
Our Visitor Assistants (VA) are always eager to talk about the artworks and answer your questions. Pick up a gallery game card to explore the museum as a “Thinker, Maker, Explorer, or Performer”. Great for a variety of ages and for intergenerational audiences to play together. Cards are available on the 1st and 4th floor near the elevators. Questions? Ask a VA on the 4th floor. Only #2 pencils allowed in the galleries.
About the Artist
Jennifer Turpin is a Boston based fiber and mixed media artist who likes to focus on movement and story. A graduate from Lesley University, she studied expressive arts with a focus on disability and aging, she enjoys integrating other art modalities into her work. As a teaching artist, Jennifer invites all artists to engage freely in the creative process and leave judgment and self-criticism at the door and just enjoy the process.

Founded by Director Betsi Graves, Urbanity’s professional company, dance school, and community programs create an interwoven network that provides high-quality art experiences to students of all ages and backgrounds—as well as paid opportunities for all professional dancers, dancemakers, artistic collaborators, and teachers—that serve Urbanity’s mission, its South End neighborhood in Boston, and the city at large.
