In response to the growing concern around the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the ICA is temporarily closed to the public until further notice. As of Monday, March 15, only essential staff are on site; other employees are working remotely.
An FAQ below addresses some questions you may have, and updates will be shared here as they unfold.

When will the museum reopen?
We continue to closely monitor the recommendations of the Boston Public Health Commission, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and look forward to reopening the museum when it is safe for the public, staff, and volunteers.
Can I get a refund for tickets I’ve purchased?
Yes. You have three options:
- If you are in the position to do so, consider donating the cost of your ticket to support the ICA. As a nonprofit, the ICA relies on a variety of funding sources for its programming, including donations, admissions, and ticket sales. As we all navigate this complex moment, we are especially grateful for your continued support and consideration of public cultural institutions during a time of uncertainty. If you would like to donate your ticket cost, please email ICAtickets@icaboston.org with your order number (found on both your e-ticket and order confirmation), and we will send you a confirmation of your donation.
- If you would like to reschedule your tickets instead of receiving a refund, please email ICAtickets@icaboston.org and let us know which month you would like to reschedule for (May 2020 – February 2021). We will add you to an email list and contact you once tickets have been released for the month you’ve requested. Visitors who choose to reschedule their tickets will be given priority access during ticket release periods.
- If you would like a refund for your tickets purchased for visits beginning March 13, please email ICAtickets@icaboston.org with your order number (found on both your e-ticket and order confirmation), and we will process a refund for your ticket price, including the service fee. If you cannot find your order number, our admissions staff can look up your ticket using your name or address.
What will happen to my membership while the museum is closed?
We are grateful for the support from our members and will reach out when we have more information. If you have any additional questions please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
When can I expect my membership cards to arrive?
We are unable to mail membership cards while the ICA offices are closed. Your ICA membership will be activated once the ICA reopens to the public to ensure that you receive a full year of benefits. In the meantime, your online account for our website has been created with this email address set as your username to ensure that your member discount applies on our website. If you have any questions please contact us at email@example.com.
I purchased a gift membership, when can my gift recipient expect membership cards to arrive?
The recipient’s gift membership will be activated once the ICA reopens to the public to ensure that they receive a full year of member benefits. We will also mail their membership card when we re-open. Due to our current situation, if you have any questions or would prefer a refund of this purchase please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will the ICA Gala be rescheduled?
Once we understand when the museum will be open to the public, we will be communicating information about the Gala. Contact email@example.com with any questions.
Will the ICA be making its current exhibitions available online?
The ICA’s website and social media channels feature a robust selection of digital content and other resources that we have produced in conjunction with our exhibitions and programs. Visitors to our site can explore videos and audio recordings including exhibition previews, artist interviews, studio visits, and talks between artists and curators. We will be sharing these digital resources on our social media channels for people to engage with, along with videos, courses, virtual tours, digital collections and more, from other sources.
Will the ICA continue having teen and family programs during the closure?
We have weekly check-ins on Zoom with all of our teens, including those completing the programs for arts credit, at the time that each teen program usually meets. In addition, we are offering creative activities and prompts that teens and families can do at home. We are offering many different alternatives to make these activities doable with whatever resources teens and families have access to.
