On October 25, 2023, Steven D. Corkin and Charlotte Wagner, Co-Chair and President of the ICA, announced that longtime director Jill Medvedow will step down from her position in December 2024. The Board of Trustees has launched the search for the next Ellen Matilda Poss Director.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Ellen Matilda Poss Director leads the museum to ensure that the ICA fulfills its mission and realizes its goals for artistic, programmatic, financial, and organizational success. The Director is the driver of the ICA’s vision, as well as long-term planning and goal setting. They play the lead role in representing the ICA externally. The Director will build new and sustain existing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders locally and nationally, including cultural, business, education, and civic leaders, and the organization’s extensive network of visual and performing artists. They have overall responsibility for internal leadership, including senior team management, program development and administration, fundraising, institutional marketing, operational business management, and financial sustainability.

The next Director of the ICA will have demonstrated substantial vision, strategic acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the ICA’s mission, including an authentic interest in and commitment to expanding audiences for contemporary culture. They will have the credibility and confidence to convene high-level dialogue around contemporary art and culture, engage intellectually across a wide range of disciplines, and inspire others to see and appreciate the points of intersection between contemporary art, life, and community.
