Position Title: ICA Waterfront Ambassador (Seasonal)

Seasonal Position from May 5, 2026 – September 27, 2026
Overview: The ICA Waterfront Ambassador is a seasonal, part-time position responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to all visitors traveling between the ICA in the Seaport and the ICA Watershed in East Boston via water shuttle. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable visitor experience while managing boarding operations and providing information at both waterfront locations. This position requires working outdoors near water and may experience weather fluctuations during scheduled shifts.
This seasonal position requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays and runs from May 5th through September 27th.
The Seasonal Waterfront Ambassador contributes to a culture of collaboration, community, and respect while embodying the principles of ICA’s Quality of Service and centers the work of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging in all areas of their work.
WORKING AT THE ICA:
- All ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within commuting distance from our Seaport/Watershed location as of their first day of work.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional representative of the ICA at both the Seaport and East Boston docks
- Assist visitors with water shuttle boarding and departure, ensuring safety and efficient crowd flow
- Scan tickets and manage lines during high-volume periods
- Provide accurate information about ICA exhibitions, programs, and both ICA and Watershed locations
- Respond to visitor questions, feedback, and concerns with professionalism and care
- Enforce ICA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines as directed by Visitor Services leadership
- Communicate effectively with Visitor Services staff, Watershed personnel, and Water Shuttle operators
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, use good judgement and respond effectively to visitor concerns
- Comfort working outdoors on the waterfront in varying weather conditions
- Self-motivated with the ability to stay informed, organized, and on task
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly during high-volume periods
- Proven ability to work professionally and respectfully with a diverse range of visitors, colleagues, and partners
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English language fluency strongly preferred
- Must be available May 5,2026 – September 27, 2026
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of remaining stationary such as sitting or standing at the dock
- Ability to work outdoors on the waterfront, rain or shine
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds, pushing, pulling and gripping
- Staff in this position use and/or operate a hand-held radio for communication.
- Travel to Watershed via water taxi requires traveling down a dock ramp and transferring to the boat (boarding boat requires stepping over/on and three steps down).

Pay Range: $19.00 – $19.00 per hour (this is a fixed rate position)
