November 12 / Art-Making After Dark: “To the Salon”

Inspired by Leilah Babirye: Embaga ya Naki ne Naki (Wedding of Naki and Naki), tonight, you’re invited to create a wearable sculpture out of recycled materials and consider what dressing up means to you! While all materials will be provided, you are welcome to bring recyclables or items you wish to reuse or adorn. This activity was created with artist Leilah Babirye.

Inspired by the idea of the queer wedding, Leilah Babirye: Embaga ya Naki ne Naki (Wedding of Naki and Naki) debuts a new body of sculptures by Babirye, each embodying a role in a wedding ceremony and adorned in headdresses and jewelry created from recycled materials. Babirye refers to the process of creating and adding these detailed elements as “taking the girls to the salon.” Experience her exhibition at the ICA through Jan 18, 2027.

December 10 / Art-Making After Dark: Printmaking

Head to the ICA for an evening of printmaking led by Boston-based printmaker Louis Meola.

This program is inspired by the exhibition Cynthia Daignault: Valley.

About Louis Meola:

Louis Meola is a Boston local who received a BFA in printmaking from Emmanuel College and an MFA from SMFA at Tufts University. An avid printmaker who will “literally print anything,” Louis has made prints with a multitude of nonrational matrices. Materials like discarded metal or flattened tomato cans all have a story that connects Louis’ practice with family, tradition, and everyday life.
