What can contemporary art reveal about memory? Join fellow educators for a day of artmaking, dialogue, and reflection as you explore this question and discover new connections between contemporary art and teaching.
In the morning, visit the Bank of America Art Lab to see Perfect Memory, an installation by Boston artist crystal bi. Take inspiration from crystal’s floating art installations that connect memory and water. Use bamboo, clay, and other natural materials to create a floating sculpture that honors the people or experiences that shape who you are and your vision of the future.
In the afternoon, Join Art21 staff to continue exploring contemporary art through the lens of memory. This session will include Art21 film viewing, a guided gallery tour, and conversations inspired by the work of artists Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Sarah Sze, and Rose B. Simpson. Together, educators will examine how contemporary artists engage with personal and collective memory and discover strategies for bringing these ideas into the classroom and the museum.
Registration includes coffee, lunch, ICA tote, and curriculum materials.
This workshop is suitable for K-12 educators of all disciplines, pre-service teachers, school administrators, and informal educators.
